Paulo Costa alleges “Gourmet Chen Chen” Khamzat Chimaev is terrfied of his size and won’t fight him
Costa has repeatedly called out Chimaev since their clash last week
Paulo Costa and Khamzat Chimaev may just head down on a war path and very few ever saw this coming. However Costa feels his size will be a key factor in making Chimaev avoid the fight for as long as possible.
Khamzat entered the UFC on a 6-0 record and after his performance this weekend against Holland he took his pro record to an impressive 12-0. This was yet another fight where Chimaev had complete dominance and tossed around Holland at will to clench the submission victory in the very first round.
However, according to fans Chimaev already lost twice this week, once again the scale and by extension losing to Nate Diaz by failing to show up and the second, during his verbal altercation at the UFC Performance Center against Paulo Costa.
Paulo Costa willing to face Khamzat Chimaev at Middleweight
While none of these will be entered into the records it’s still a fun taunt for the many who turned against Chimaev after his actions this week. However, Costa is not deterred despite Chimaev’s dominant performance this week. The two were caught up in a brawl at the PI earlier last week.
Chimaev intended to confront Costa after one of his training sessions, while Costa was drilling some BJJ alongside Jake Shields, who he just met that morning. Chimaev was furious due to some social media posts by Costa that mentioned him. According to Shields, men from Khamzat’s camp had been staring at Costa for 10 minutes before they confronted him.
When Chimaev did finally get near Costa, he walked up with a 10-man crew, while Costa walked up to these 10 all by himself with Shields following him, unknown to what was wrong. Costa would be blocked by some of Chimaev’s teammates as he tried to exit the octagon and directly face him and they would later drag the Chechen away from Costa.

Now Costa has come up with a theory that he will never get to face Chimaev, his reason, solely because achimaev is bigger than Costa. Accusing him of being a weight bully Costa said on Twitter, “Gourmet Chen Chen not fight big guys like me unfortunately” answering why he was silent on Chimaev since last night.
While Khamzat is a huge welterweight and a natural middleweight, Costa is a usually large middleweight who is known to bloat upwards of the heavyweight limit on fight day after rehydration. He was also shown adequate take-down defense and could very well scramble with Chimaev.
Moreover he has shown to have a proven gas tank that helps him be explosive even in the closing moments of the fight, a good example being his fifth round against Marvin Vettori. How do you think the fight between Costa and Chimaev plays out? Let us know!
