Costa promised to be better than ever when he finally gets his rematch for the title
Paulo Costa’s career transition since his fight with Israel Adesanya has been nothing short of a miracle. Leading up to the fight, Costa was always an action fighter who never backed down from constantly being in his opponent’s face. Moreover, his most recent bout against Yoel Romero and Adesanya most recent bout against Romero left many thinking Costa had the endurance and chin to stand up to Izzy.
Alm who thought that couldn’t have been more wrong come fight night. At UFC 253, Israel Adesanya made quick work of Costa in a performance that can be best summed up as the middleweight equivalent of Conor McGregor’s UFC lightweight debut. Without suffering any significant damage, Izzy put out Costa in the second round, ending it by humping the man while he was down.
The next day, Costa gave an excuse that would begin the career transformation he was always looking for. Blaming his loss on the wine he had the night before, Costa was hated by the MMA community for it but unlike many, he leaned into it and completely made it his schtick until it stuck.

Paulo Costa promises rematch with Israel Adesanya will be “Very Different”
Costa engaged more with his fans via social media, sharing wacky memes and making equally bizarre statements in broken English. A testament to his fame was when his antics against Marvin Vettori during fight week, regarding weight cuts, led to him walking away with more fans as he tried to lay the entire blame on the ever-hot-headed Vettori.
While on a recent appearance at the MMA Hour, Costa detailed the fight with Adesanya and how he still wishes to get that one back. Speaking of the night before Costa said the huge load of expectations resting on his shoulders for the first time in his life did not let him sleep the night prior.
Hence he decided to have some wine as a sort of sleep remedy. “I lost a great opportunity to fight the skinny boy, i need to say to everyone who was mad with me, because I was mad at myself, ” said Costa as he explained how he had cramps all over his body the night before the fight.
Costa said his persistence made him push that extra mile and make it to the fight despite his condition. “Your Body, your mind and your reflex is not good, I drank a bottle of wine to go to sleep, that’s not good”, said Costa as he asked fans to forgive him for that as he was certainly coming back to redeem himself against Adesanya.
“Lean with a good shape, and good camp, I am unstoppable”, said Costa as he continued explaining how his future fight against Adesanya goes. ” I have the power to make (infighting) bad for him, I know he (doesn’t) like that”
