“Enough of this shit” – Paulo Costa demands for VAR as he accuses Luke Rockhold of cheating in their fight

Paulo Costa Luke Rockhold
Paulo Costa and Luke Rockhold recently went into a war at the co-main event of UFC 278. Rockhold came into the fight after a three-year hiatus and unexpectedly gave an amazing performance. From the start of the fight, Costa was dominating and Rockhold was getting out the volume.
The 37-year-old was losing his breath and was looking miserable. Everybody thought that the fight would end in no time but it wasn’t the case.
In the second round, the fight was stopped for some time when Rockhold went to the ground claiming that he got hit by a low blow by Costa. Rockhold showed tremendous perseverance and lasted three rounds in a gruelling fight. After the final bell, the Brazilian won the fight via unanimous decision. But it seems like Costa was not happy with the low-blow situation at all.
“This need to change asap”- Paulo Costa don’t want fighters to cheat by using fake claims

After putting out an amazing performance at UFC 278, Paulo Costa took to Twitter to suggest something that will help UFC from tackling fake low-blow claims.
Costa revealed that to prevent fighters from taking advantage of low-blow claims, UFC should adapt to VAR(video assistant referee). According to Costa, the use of VAR in MMA would stop fighters from cheating. About the Luke Rockhold fight, Costa claimed with pictures that he hit above the shorts. He wrote:
“All jokes besides. I need to point this very important . I’m enough of this shit!!!! @ufc and mma shows needs to use VAR (video assistant referee) to stop this cheating . I knocked him on body shot ! It’s so clearly! Same thing against Romero! This need to change asap.”
Costa had a similar situation during his fight with Yoel Romero and the fighter was equally annoyed about it. The fighter explained that in that fight, Romero cheated and took advantage of the rest time.
“Exactly the same. The referee in addition non finish the fight by ko/TKO gives until 5 min to cheater’s coming back to still fight after bodyshots knocked out,” wrote Costa.
The use of VAR can be a really good idea as it would give the fighters a chance to challenge a fake low blow or eye poke claim. However, this technology comes with its disadvantages. In a sport like MMA where rest time is very important, the decision of VAR can take a lot of time and it would indirectly give an unfair advantage. It will also delay the action that might annoy the fans.
