“Anyone can get it” Petr Yan puts out a fierce callout to top-ranking bantamweights announcing his return
Petr Yan has announced his intention to return to the octagon by September
Petr Yan put the bantamweight division on notice and asked anyone who dares to be prepared to face him. He took to Twitter where he showed no hesitancy in picking whichever opponent came along his way.
Petr Yan has been stuck in matchmaking limbo since his fight against Aljamain Sterling. Everyone but Sterling’s close family and friends thought that it would be Yan who walked in as an Interim Champion being the one leaving the arena as the undisputed Bantamweight Champion. However Sterling stunned many when he comfortably bagged in the first few rounds to take home the decision victory.
The entire balance of the bantamweight division was shaken up by this development, even to the extent that former champion Henry Cejudo was ready to jump back into the mix after a two-year-long retirement. The UFC had plans for TJ Dillashaw facing off against Yan but all that changed with Sterling’s victory.
Petr Yan puts out division-wide notice for his return to action
Yan himself offered to fight Chito Vera after his victory over Rob Font in a real step up in competition for the Ecuadorian. However earlier this week it was announced that he would face off against divisional veteran and former champion, Dominick Cruz. To find an opponent Yan also called out Cejudo in a lengthy Twitter spat.
It saw the two accuse each other of cheating and ducking, where Yan stated that the sole reason for Henry’s retirement was Yan climbing closer to title contention while he only re-entered the testing pool when Yan was finally dethroned. Henry would dismiss the call out claiming that a fighter who got dominated by a divisional wrestler like Sterling doesn’t stand a chance against an Olympic medalist.
Today Petr Yan took to Twitter and announced the timeline for his return to the octagon. He said, “This fall anyone from top of the division can get it ” putting all fighters in the top five on notice to face off against him somewhere between September and November.
From the top 10 it would seem like Rob Font is the only fighter who doesn’t have a fight booked however he’s on a medical suspension. New arrival to the top-15 Adrian Yanez expressed interest in disproving the boxing acumen of Petr Yan in his post-fight presser at UFC Austin. Who do you think will be Yan’s next dance partner?
