Former Dana White’s Contender Series contestant, Brendan Loughnane, recently shared what he felt after winning $1 Million and becoming a PFL champion. “It made me double hungry,” he said to talkSPORT.
During the month of November, in the iconic Madison Square Garden arena situated in New York, Brendan Loughnane delivered a powerful knockout blow to Bubba Jenkins, resulting in his victory and the acquisition of the featherweight championship title of the Professional Fighters League (PFL). Furthermore, Loughnane secured the organization’s noteworthy seven-figure bonus by clinching a triumph with a fourth-round TKO finish.
Loughnane’s long journey to the top of the sport came to a triumphant end when he won the title. His journey was not without challenges, including a stunning rejection from UFC President Dana White.
Following his brief stint on The Ultimate Fighter show in 2012 and his subsequent dismissal, Brendan Loughnane had to patiently wait for seven years for another chance to showcase his talent. Finally, in 2019, he received an opportunity to compete in the Contender Series, where he defeated Bill Algeo, earning himself a highly anticipated contract with the prestigious company.
Despite Loughnane’s impressive win, his dream of joining the UFC was momentarily crushed when its President, Dana White, refused to sign him. This decision came as a result of Loughnane shooting a takedown in the last seconds of the fight, which White deemed to be against the organization’s standards. However, it is worth noting that the UFC eventually signed Bill Algeo, who was Loughnane’s defeated opponent in the same fight, to a contract, leaving Loughnane to explore other opportunities in the MMA world.

Brendan Loughnane since joining the PFL
Brendan Loughnane, who previously competed in Dana White’s Contender Series, credits the UFC president with improving his life. Despite this defeat, Loughnane has become one of the most interesting fighters in the PFL (Professional Fighters League). His recent victory over Marlon Moraes shows his skill and fighting ability and continues his incredible winning streak.
Brendan Loughnane stated after the bout that he was searching for violence and that he was now gunning for the championship crown. “Yeah, two-time champion sounds good to me and that’s what I want to cement my legacy as,” he says. Brendan reportedly has bought a lavish house in Dubai and the PFL funds have been treating him well.
He is now eager to return to the finals to face Movlid Khaybulaev, who defeated him by a split decision in the 2021 PFL semifinals. Loughnane will compete on June 8, but it is uncertain who he will face. It could be one of the other featherweights on the roster this season.
