“Dreams are shattered”- Pros react to rumors of faulty scale as the reason for Charles Oliveira being stripped of his title

Charles Oliveira might have just shocked the MMA World again, but this time for all the wrong reasons. The Brazillian weighed in at 0.5 Lbs (280 Grams) over the Lightweight championship limit of 155 lbs and will no longer be eligible to win the title in his bout against Justin Gaethje at UFC 274. Many MMA pros took to social media to express their opinions about the massive scandal.

Many had criticism for the champion missing weight while many more were empathetic to the small margin by which “Do Bronx” missed weight, while a few others were already boiling with conspiracy theories

#3 Ranked Lih=ghtweight and possibly the next in line for the title, Islam Mackachev channeled the immortal words of his teammate Khabib Nurmagomedov in describing the whole scandal saying, “Big Drama“

Although in a follow-up tweet, Islam offered his good wishes to the Champion, saying, “keep your head up Charles and good luck tomorrow, we all know you’re champ for a reason.” expressing his eagerness to face the winner either for the vacant title or new Lightweight Champion

Former title challenger and the man who Charles Oliveira defeated to become Champion, Michael Chandler empathized with the champion describing the ordeal of cutting weight after you’ve already lost “initial sweat” to be a “Living nightmare both physically and mentally“

Justin Gaethje on the contrary seemed to be mocking Charles’ situation, where he posted a story on Instagram showing his re-hydrated weight while Charles was still trying to drop to 155.

Dustin Poirier initially expressed his disbelief by posting a lone emoji but later clarified while replying to a fan’s question that the situation will make him reconsider his picks for the main event

Former two-division champion Conor McGregor posted an ominous “The Notorious” after the news broke and went on to retweet a video by a fan showing him riding his Lamborghini yacht to fill in for the main event against Gaethje

Lightweight prospect Terrance McKinney seemed just as flabbergasted as the rest of us by the whole ordeal describing the whole situation to be “wild”

UFC Fighters Empathize with Charles Oliveira, question the scales

Jack Shore was quick to point out that Oliveira’s disbelief on missing at the scales was an indicator that he had made weight earlier also saying that he was “gutted for him!”

Women’s flyweight, Casey Oneill seemed to concur that there were some issues with the backstage digital scales and the official manual scales.

Women’s strawweight who also barely made the limit claimed someone had, “messed with the fighter’s scale leaving it with a 0.5lb difference”
