UFC lightweight Rafael Fiziev gave an update on his injury in a video of him in the hospital with fellow UFC Vegas 79 fighters Bryce Mitchell and Michelle Waterson.

UFC Vegas 79 brought some great matchups. One of which was the main event between Rafael Fiziev and Mateusz Gamrot. However, due to Rafael Fiziev’s unfortunate knee injury, Gamrot won the fight via TKO. Many expected this fight to become a blockbuster lightweight matchup, but due to the injury, the hype died down. Later, Fiziev posted a video from the hospital, which surprised many fans.

In the video, Fiziev gave an insight into a UFC fighter’s life after a brutal injury or fight. Fiziev had the company of other fellow UFC Vegas 79 fighters in the hospital. The two other fighters in the video were Bryce Mitchell and Michelle Waterson. Both of them received treatment for their injuries from their fights. At the end of the video, Fiziev said out loud, ” Look everybody here. What a business guys! The best business in the world.“

At UFC Vegas 79, Mitchell emerged victorious against his opponent, Dan Ige. Thug Nasty used his wrestling to overpower Ige to win via decision. Further, Waterson faced a loss against her opponent, Marina Rodriguez via TKO in the second round. Fiziev, on the other hand, was unable to compete at his full potential. Due to a hard right kick that ‘Ataman’ launched at Gamrot, the left knee popped out.

It was an unlucky day in the office for Fiziev. Coming off a loss from Justin Gaethje, a win against Gamrot could’ve changed the future for him. However, the Azerbaijani is known to be one of the resilient ones in the lightweight division.

An insight into Rafael Fiziev’s knee injury against Mateusz Gamrot

Rafael Fiziev vs. Mateuzsz Gamrot was looked at as one of the important lightweight matchups. Both fighters rose gradually in the division and held much potential for future glory. However, due to Fiziev’s unfortunate knee injury, the fight ended in the second round.

The main event started with excellent back and forth between the two. Fiziev landed some significant strikes on Gamrot using his skills. On the other hand, Gamrot started using his strongest forte, his wrestling in the fight. In the second round, Fiziev was trying to attack the Gamrot early. In an attempt to get him, Fiziev threw a leg kick at Gamrot, which ended up getting blocked. However, the kick was so strong that after facing the impact, Fiziev popped his knee due to the collision.

After this incident, Gamrot was awarded a TKO by judges. Many MMA fans did not imagine this outcome for the fight. But, such moments are part of the fight game. This incident gives remembrance of Conor McGregor‘s shin injury during his bout against Dustin Poirier in 2021.
