Colby Covington and Leon Edwards met in the main event of UFC 296 in a much-anticipated fight. However, the fight did not meet the expectations of many. After the offensive remarks Covington made at the pre-fight press conference, fans and fighters alike expected a brutal KO victory for Edwards. On the other hand, fans of Covington expected a five-round domination for Covington. Unfortunately, both did not happen.

Edwards won the fight easily via unanimous decision with 49-46 across the board. In the latest episode of UFC Round UP, Michael Chiesa had some words to say about the fight. This is what he said.

The girls stole the show because Leon (Edwards) and Colby (Covington) laid an egg...... Colby, you laid an egg, dude. And for Leon, it's like you're not winning over your fan base right now. .......I expected a lot more. I expected a lot more. I think that Colby didn't really try to get after it very much, and Leon was just doing just enough to win...... It was just a point-scoring match. I did not see a fight between two guys that hate each other.

Ranked welterweight contender compares UFC 296 Fight of the Night to legendary UFC fights

Irene Aldana and Karola Rosa delivered one of the best fights of 2023. The blood and guts war saw both females suffer tremendous damage and continue to fight through. Even the UFC commentators felt the performance deserved a $100,000 each than the usual $50,000.

UFC welterweight Michael Chiesa spoke of the fight in high regard on UFC Round Up with Paul Felder. This is what he said.

Every time the UFC does an end-of-the-year card, there's always like one special fight that kind of stands out........ Jim Miller versus Joe Lauzon at the end of the year show? Wanderlei Silva versus Chuck Liddell was on one of their end-of-the-year shows. It's always at the end of the year show; there's always one special fight, and that one(Karol Rosa vs Irene Aldana) was the special fight, especially when you see how lackluster the main event was.

Chiesa compared the fight to legendary fights like Jim Miller vs. Joe Lauzon and Wanderlei Silva vs. Chuck Liddell. He felt that the fight stood out from the rest, particularly due to the lackluster main event between Colby Covington and Leon Edwards.
