In the UFC, Russian fighter Khabib Nurmagomedov has cemented his legacy as one of the best fighters of all time. ‘The Eagle’s Dagestani wrestling skills are unmatched and allowed him to dominate his opponents in the octagon. Recently, a video surfacing the fighter’s Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training went viral. His abilities and techniques received applause from fans and viewers.
In the viral tweet, Khabib Nurmagomedov and his BJJ coach Javier Mendez were captured training in the video. It is often unlikely when fighters manage to outclass their trainers. However, the Russian fighter took it upon himself to emerge victorious in a Jiu-Jitsu sparring session against his trainer. In the cheeky session, Mendez was unable to withstand Nurmagomedov’s strength. The friendly grappling session ended in a victory for ‘The Eagle.’
Despite his coach’s several attempts at leg locks, Khabib Nurmagomedov managed to maneuver through them. The retired fighter was also successful in his attempts at takedowns of Javier Mendez. As ‘The Eagle’ managed to submit his coach, his teammates cheered for him. This was a wholesome session that the Russian fighter was involved in. Fans praised the fighter for his IQ on the BJJ mat.
Khabib Nurmagomedov’s wrestling skills are impressive. The Russian fighter in his prime, had dominated his opponents in the octagon. ‘The Eagle’ is also regarded as ‘The Greatest of all Time’ in his division until his retirement in 2021.
Khabib Nurmagomedov’s thoughts on returning to the UFC
Following his retirement in 2021, Khabib Nurmagomedov stayed out of the octagon. Despite leaving his fighting days behind, the fighter trained active contenders like Islam Makhachev and Belal Muhammad. Since his departure from the sport, the Russian fighter was bombarded with requests to get back into the octagon. However, the retired fighter shot all the rumors down.
“No, I leave this sport alone,” said Khabib Nurmagomedov after he was questioned about his return to MMA. He continued, “There is always gonna be some champions, Without my name too. Don’t worry. It can be Charles Oliveira, it can be Islam, or other name. This is high-level sport. I was champion, right now I’m not champion. There is couple years. This is your prime time, finish, bye-bye!” “Others, you can stay to make money but you can never be the champion, “said the Russian fighter.
Following his dominant victory against Justin Gaethje, Khabib Nurmagomedov retired from the sport. The Russian fighter has no interest in coming back to the sport as he believes his reign as a champion is behind him. The Dagestani fighter is intrigued to witness the next champion of the lightweight division and name-dropped Charles Oliveira and Islam Makhachev in the midst.
