Robert Whittaker has been out of UFC action for more than six months now and doesn’t see Khamzat Chimaev as a possible comeback fight. Whittaker bounced back from the Israel Adesanya title loss and defeated Marvin Vettori and there were plans for him to fight Khamzat Chimaev in a middleweight bout. However, Vettori doesn’t consider the Chechen warrior a top middleweight fighter as he’s not in the rankings. In a recent interview, the Aussie mentioned that he wants to fight top-ranked fighters and doesn’t like fighters who get unfairly pushed in the rankings.

He said: “Chimaev isn’t in the division rankings. I’m not a huge fan of guys just sliding in, fighting wherever they want. It’s a different place. The rankings are there for a reason. I like fighting Top 5 guys, that’s just where I’m at…because they’re the guys who are the best of the best. Well-earned, worked their way through the division to get there.” in the MMA Hour.

The UFC has not yet spoken anything about Chimaev’s next fight and Whittaker mostly wants to get a title shot, so fighting the ‘Borz’ doesn’t make sense for him.

Robert Whittaker had plans to fight and beat Alex Pereira to win the Middleweight championship however, with Izzy taking back the title at UFC 287, Whittaker was a little unfortunate. However, the ‘Reaper’ isn’t giving up just yet and thinks he will definitely beat Izzy next time.

He said: “I’m in this game and he’s got the belt and I want to win. I want to take that from him. I’m going to beat him. Izzy’ fought Pereira four times over the course of his career.  I’m only gonna need to fight ‘Izzy’ three times because I will beat him that next time. I’m 100 percent confident that I will beat him that next time.”

Whittaker does have points as it took Adesanya four fights to finally beat his arch-rival, Pereira. It is going to be hard but Whittaker does have what it takes to win against Adesanya and win back his lost glory.
