UFC 299 is one of the best PPV cards of the year. Many consider the fight card to be on par with that of UFC 300. Sean O’Malley will headline UFC 299 with Marlon Vera in a rematch of their first encounter at UFC 252. O’Malley is the betting favorite in the bout against the underdog Vera but fans and fighters have conflicting picks for the fight. Robert Whittaker recently revealed his pick for the fight.

Aljamain Sterling had recently predicted a victory for Sean O’Malley at UFC 292 as he got inside information about Vera’s fight camp. Before that, he had leaned toward Vera for the fight. Robert Whittaker’s prediction for the fight was not based on inside information but rather his technical analysis as revealed on his MMArcade Podcast. This is what Whittaker said.

If I had to favor someone, I'm going to favor Sean O'Malley...I've put him down as my pick because he has an uncanny way to find chins...He has impeccable timing for those, and accuracy with those shots that have the power to switch people off.

Moreover, Whittaker also stated that there is a high level of difficulty in understanding the movement and spacing of O’Malley. He also found that the constant stance switching of O’Malley is another important factor that will make it difficult for Vera.

Whittaker last fought at UFC 298 where he defeated Paulo Costa after recovering from an early adversity. With the victory, he has put himself in a position to fight in a potential number-one contender match at middleweight.

Robert Whittaker picked Sean O’Malley to defend his bantamweight title against Marlon Vera at UFC 299. However, he also admitted that it did not mean that he did not give any chance for Vera to become champion. After all, Vera was 1-0 against O’Malley.

Whittaker stated that Vera has the ‘dog in him’ that could provide considerable problems for O’Malley. He referenced O’Malley’s fight with Petr Yan where O’Malley could not dispatch the Russian fighter. Whittaker stated that Vera is more durable than Yan. Nonetheless, Whittaker also stated that despite Vera’s supposed durability, O’Malley could potentially finish the fight very quickly.

Despite his pick for O’Malley, Whittaker stated that Vera had had the demeanor of someone who wants blood inside the octagon. Interestingly, Jonny Roses, the co-host of the MMArcade podcast picked Vera as the winner. Roses had earlier predicted Aljamain Sterling to defeat O’Malley.
