Robert Whitaker knows what it takes to take on Israel Adesanya. He lost the middleweight title to “The Last Stylebender” in their first meeting. In the second meeting, Whitaker lost a close decision. Many observers believed the Australian did enough to win the title in the second fight.
Whitaker is the betting analyst for Unibet Australia and, in his prediction, gave a hilarious response. “The Reaper” said, “I’m staying away from Israel Adesanya and Sean Strickland. Because I am not going to help myself and I am gonna pick Sean Strickland, he is paying $5.80.” The former middleweight champion clarified his prediction by citing that Sean Strickland would take too much damage closing distance against the champion.
Robert Whitaker would have gotten a third crack at the title at UFC 293 had he defeated Dricus Du Plessis at UFC 290. The victory earned Du Plessis a title shot, but he withdrew due to injury. Whitaker had not lost to anyone but Adesanya for a long time, but Du Plessis changed that at UFC 290. Nevertheless, Whitaker would be hoping for a Sean Strickland victory, as it would make his path easier. His situation is similar to what Max Holloway faces at featherweight due to Alexander Volkanovski being champion.
UFC 293 has already gotten considerable interest, with Sean Strickland going for Israel Adesanya’s throat. The pre-fight presser showcased Strickland’s popularity in the Oceanic region. The event also saw Manel Kape and Israel Adesanya having a feud. Adesanya was responding to Kape throwing a bottle at Kai Kara-France.
Robert Whitaker backing fellow Australians at UFC 293 for a three-legger bet
The former middleweight champion from Australia carries his love for the country in his heart. Robert Whitaker‘s passion for the homeland is evidenced by his shouting, “Aussie Aussie, Aussie,” when emotion gets high. Whitaker is currently doing betting props for Unibet Australia.
Whitaker was not interested in betting on the main event, which remained predictable. However, he believed betting on Tai Tuivasa, Justin Tafa, and Tyson Pedro in a three-legger might be better. Three of them would be looking to bounce back from the setbacks from their previous bout. Fighting on home soil would be extra motivation for the Aussie fighters.
Whitaker last fought at UFC 290 against Dricus Du Plessis. He lost the fight in the second round. A victory would have garnered him a third crack at the title. The loss became a huge upset as Whitaker was favored to outclass the South African fighter.
