“It will take him VERY FAR,” Robert Whittaker REVEALS the ONE THING that will make Marvin Vettori a UFC champion
Robert Whittaker x Marvin Vettori
As a former world champion, Robert Whittaker knows what a thing or two needed to be one for anyone aspiring to get the golden strap, not that he has stopped the chase. Whittaker is the former UFC middleweight champion who is currently ranked #1 in the official middleweight rankings. Whittaker is coming off a huge win against former title-challenger Marvin Vettori at UFC Paris. Other than Vettori, Whittaker is known for his wins over the likes of Yoel Romero, Derek Brunson, Uriah Hall, Darren Till, Kelvin Gastelum, Jared Cannonier, Ronaldo Souza and many more.
Whittaker is not only the first Australian UFC champion but is also the first Australian winner of The Ultimate Fighter. He was the winner of The Ultimate Fighter: SMASHES. Whittaker lost his belt only to current UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya. Unfortunately for the Australian, he couldn’t become a champion again even in the rematch. But Whittaker believes with all his heart that a rematch between the two is inevitable in future.
Robert Whittaker believes that Marvin Vettori never gives up no matter the superiority of his opponent
In an interview with Ariel Helwani at The MMA Hour, Whittaker talks about the atmosphere of UFC Paris, why he hates losing and is terrified of losing twice in a row, his reaction to Vettori’s handshake trick, Adesanya’s style of fighting and much more. In the midst of all, Whittaker also talks about if Vettori has what it takes to become the first ever Italian UFC champion.
“Definitely,” says Whittaker “Not while I am around, but I think he has something that is super… I said in a lot of interviews leading up to him, that he has that zero quitting in him and that will take a guy, very very far, you’ve seen in a lot of his fights where he is fighting a dude that is flashier more skilful and more technical but he doesn’t give up and then his opponent eventually does… he’s got a lot of potentials still…” continues Whittaker.
What do you make of Whittaker’s assessment of Vettori’s potential, enough to get the gold strap for his birth nation of Italy? Who do you think is next for Vettori? Who do you think is next for Whittaker? Do you think Whittaker can become a UFC champion again in his career? Former title challenger Paulo Costa has called out Whittaker as his potential next opponent and the Brazilian has vowed to knock out the Australian. Who do you think wins?
