Middleweight contender Robert Whittaker has stirred up a fan frenzy as of late. The former champion has recently teased a fateful return at UFC 299. “The Reaper” last fought in July when he faced Dricus Du Plessis in a middleweight title eliminator bout. However, he incurred a second-round shocking TKO to the South African. Now, Whittaker has hyped up fans on the possibility of facing Paulo Costa.

The defeat was an undeniable upset for the former champion. Robert Whittaker remained a win away from title shot. Now, the 32-year-old teased a matchup against Paulo Costa.

Surprisingly, the fighter has also tagged Costa in his post. Recently Costa was set to face Khamzat Chimaev at UFC 294. However, Costa suffered a serious staph infection on his elbow. Interestingly, from the end of last year to sometime in the beginning of 2023, Costa and Whittaker were rumored to fight.

Whittaker needs a win to get back on track. On the other hand, Costa has not fought since defeating Luke Rockhold in 2022. It remains to be seen if the UFC books a Whittaker vs. Costa bout or rebook Costa vs. Chimaev.

UFC 299 takes place on March 9, 2024. Miami will serve as the location for the PPV. The only confirmed fight on the pay-per-view so far is the main event. It features Sean O’Malley defending his bantamweight gold against Marlon ‘Chito’ Vera. Robert Whittaker has teased his return and teased Paulo Costa as the desired opponent.
