“Sorry to everyone”- Rose Namajunas issues apology after losing her title to Carla Esparza at UFC 274

Rose Namajunas

Rose Namajunas went against Carla Esparza for the Strawweight title at UFC 274. It was the second time both fighters went against each other and Carla Esparza came out victorious in both of the fights.

The Co-Main Event of the night was arguably the worst championship fight in UFC history. Very few strikes were thrown throughout the fight and it was seemingly the pressure and brief takedowns from Carla Esparza that proved to be the difference. Only 67 significant strikes landed in the fight and both fighters were seen as reluctant to engage with each other.

After the five rounds of unremarkable fighting, the fight went to the judges for a decision. The judges scored the fight 47-48, 49-46, 48-47 and Carla Esparza won the fight after the split decision. Both fighters were seen dissatisfied with their performance have vowed to improve in the next fights.

Both fighters had their share of say after the immediate backlash by fans and the MMA community. Rose went into a defensive position and said that she felt she won the fight.

In the post-fight interview, Rose said, “I won the fight, I stuck to the strategy. I felt as if I had landed more shots. I even took her down. None of her takedowns were significant or any control time. She hit me with, I’d say one good punch and maybe another time her forearm clashed into my nose at some point when we were both standing up, but other than that, maybe a couple low kicks but I didn’t feel them or anything.”
