In his career, Khabib Nurmagomedov was influenced by several people, all of whom contributed to his historic UFC run and 29-0 record before his retirement. But it’s difficult to think of someone who had a greater influence than his father. The former lightweight champion broke down in tears on Thursday while paying emotional homage to his father Abdulmanap, who tragically passed away nearly precisely two years ago as a result of difficulties brought on by COVID-19.
As he described how he rose from humble beginnings to become one of the most dominant fighters to ever compete in the UFC, Nurmagomedov couldn’t help but acknowledge the sacrifices made by his father and the time they spent together to help Nurmagomedov succeed.
In the speech it stated, “My father, he bring us from village, he sold our house and he brings me, my brother, my cousins, it was almost like 15 people from village to capital city. He rented a very big house and we all was living together. We would eat together. We was going to school, come back, training, come back, just father, trying to invest everything we have.”
He added, “Time, energy, money, he invested in us. He invested in us. From this house comes six world champions, UFC champions, a lot of champions and very good people because father invested everything that we have. He gave us a good education.”
“I’m not against him”- Khabib Nurmagomedov offers his respect to Charles Oliveira
When Charles Oliveira was the champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov was promoting Islam Makhachev against him. Everything changed when “do the Bronx” lost the title at UFC 274 because he missed the weight limit. He had this to say about the fighter, “He beat a lot of tough guys, he finisher. He have a lot of records in the UFC. I’m very happy for him, like I don’t want media make like I’m against him. I’m not against him. I just want to see best lightweight fight best lightweight.”
During the Hall of Fame speech, Ryan Clark is a former National Football League safety for American football. He an avid fan of MMA, he tweeted out the following during the Hall of fame speech of Khabib, he stated,”@TeamKhabib’s Hall of Fame speech is classic!! Who knew he’d talk this long?
