Sean O’Malley rose to a new level of stardom when he dethroned Aljamain Sterling at UFC 292. He became the bantamweight champion by knocking out Sterling. But that wasn’t enough for Suga, who wanted to be the biggest star in sports. As such, he believed he could match Conor McGregor’s stardom in 2024.

In his recent interview with ESPN MMA, Sean O’Malley discussed his goals for 2024. As such, he revealed his aspiration to become the biggest star in sports overall. To do so, he planned to defend his title twice this year and put forth spectacular performances. Further, he compared himself to Conor McGregor and affirmed he would be at his level of stardom by the end of 2024. Here is what he said:

I would like to get another one in by the end of the year and be the biggest star in sports – not just combat sports. I think (if) I go out there and put two beautiful performances together (in 2024), I will be as big as Conor (McGregor).

Sean O’Malley faces Marlon Vera for his first title defense at UFC 299. This would be their second time meeting in the octagon, as Vera won their first matchup via TKO. This marked O’Malley’s first loss in his career and was still the only loss on his record. As such, ‘Suga’ would look to avenge his loss, while Vera would like to grab the bantamweight title.

Sean O’Malley speaks about Conor McGregor’s return

Conor McGregor recently announced his return to the UFC octagon on New Year’s Eve. The Irishman revealed he will take on Michael Chandler on June 29 for the International Fight Week PPV matchup. Sean O’Malley, in his recent ‘TimboSugarShow,’ said Conor McGregor was just fiddling with the weight class. However, he thought getting knockouts in four different weight classes would be legendary.

As such, he mentioned ‘The Notorious’ has featherweight, lightweight, and welterweight knockouts. So, if McGregor manages to stop Michael Chandler at 185lbs, he would accomplish the unique feat of having knockouts in four divisions, making him ‘legendary’ according to O’Malley.

Conor McGregor last fought Dustin Poirier in 2021, in which he suffered a gruesome leg injury. After almost three years, he would return to professional fighting. So, the expectations around his comeback were overwhelming, and the thought of him getting a knockout like Sean O’Malley imagined would have the fans berserk.
