Conor McGregor is the biggest star in MMA. Recently, Sean O’Malley made a bold statement claiming to become as big of a star as McGregor. This statement received huge criticism among fight personalities and fans. Ex-UFC fighter Josh Thompson and MMA referee John McCarthy weighed in on O’Malley’s statement and put forth valid arguments.

Josh Thompson and John McCarthy joined hands in a new episode of the podcast Weighing In. In a particular segment, they discussed Sean O’Malley’s star potential and compared it with Conor McGregor’s. This is what Thompson said:

Tiktok market is a young market with a lot of people that make money and a lot of people that don't. When you don't, you're definitely not buying a $90 PPV...(Conor McGregor) had $7.2 million live gate and over one million PPV buys... Sean can talk all he wants about 'Hey, I'm right there with Conor McGregor.' No son, you're not.

Also, John McCarthy pulled in the statement from Aljamain Sterling criticizing the PPV numbers of Sean O’Malley. Sterling fought ‘Suga’ at UFC 292 and recently went live to complain about the PPV buys the event did.

Hence, McCarthy believed Sterling and compared it with Conor McGregor’s first PPV main event, which did nearly a million PPV buys. As such, he completely dismissed O’Malley’s affirmation of being the new McGregor of the UFC. However, he acknowledged ‘Suga’ could be the biggest star in the future.

Sean O’Malley rose to stardom when Snoop Dogg called his fight in Dana White’s Contender Series. Also, with his unique personality and exciting fighting style, he kept improving his fan base. Now that he was the bantamweight champion, only the sky was the limit. As such, he will take on Marlon Vera for his first title defense at UFC 299.

Sean O’Malley offers a $100k bet to Ilia Topuria concerning their PPV buys

Sean O’Malley believed he could be the next Conor McGregor of the UFC. As such, he was willing to put money on the line to prove his point. Recently, Ilia Topuria trolled ‘Suga’ about his PPV numbers and said he belonged only in the ‘prelims.’ Further, he affirmed their potential matchup won’t happen due to this. Now, O’Malley responded to Topuria and offered a massive $100k bet on who does the most PPV numbers.

Ilia Topuria and Sean O’Malley have fights scheduled for UFC 298 and UFC 299. They headline the PPV events alongside their opponents, Alexander Volkanovski and Marlon Vera.

Ahead of their fights, they reignited their past beef and trolled each other on X. As such, O’Malley’s PPV numbers were a highlight of Topuria’s comments, and ‘Suga’ now put forth a bet of 100k dollars to state he made better PPV buys than ‘El Matador. But Topuria has yet to respond to the offer.

Sean O’Malley was a superstar in the UFC. However, according to various UFC personalities, his PPV buys weren’t on the higher end. But, it didn’t ditter away O’Malley’s confidence as he even claimed to surpass Conor McGregor’s stardom level. As such, he mentioned it would start by defending his title in 2024.
