Sean O’Malley is the reigning UFC bantamweight champion. ‘Suga’ believed he had yet to reach the pinnacle of stardom in his fighting career. This revelation came in a recent interview with Michael Bisping. The 29-year-old fighter expressed his ambition to surpass the legacy of Conor McGregor.
Sean O’Malley believed he had yet to reach the top of his fighting career. He had full faith in his abilities. The bantamweight champion targeted the fame of Conor McGregor, the biggest UFC star. It is such an ambitious target. This is what he said:
I've said it even before I got into the UFC. I'm gonna be bigger than Conor. People think that's a stab at Conor… It's just a good goal, a metric of where I wanna be, and that's bigger than Conor.Sean O’Malley via Michael Bispng YT

At 29, McGregor had won two UFC titles and headlined five of the highest-viewed pay-per-view events. O’Malley gave Conor McGregor immense credit. Sean O’Malley believed he had barely begun to reach his full potential as a star.
Through exceptional striking skills and a vibrant personality, O’Malley established himself as a superstar talent in the UFC. Fans and analysts also see similarities between Suga and ‘The Notorious.’ But, not everyone believed in O’Malley rising above McGregor. His successful bantamweight title defense against Marlon ‘Chito’ Vera at UFC 299 cemented his status as a major draw.
Sean O’Malley wanted to fight Umar Nurmagomedov with a marketing twist
Recently, the brash and outspoken O’Malley made a bold claim: he likened a potential showdown with Umar Nurmagomedov to the blockbuster Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Conor McGregor clash. O’Malley’s flashy, trash-talking persona draws inspiration to the ‘Notorious’ Conor Mcgregor. Umar’s Dagestani roots and familial ties to Khabib add an extra layer of intrigue.

O’Malley believed the UFC could sell the fight as McGregor vs. Nurmagomedov 2, but at 135 lbs. He believed it would be a massive hit with a branding like that. A fight of that magnitude would undoubtedly shatter pay-per-view records. It also has the potential to become the biggest fight in the bantamweight division if Umar climbs the rankings.
Umar still has to get past the ever-dangerous Cory Sandhagen. That is no easy task. O’Malley knew exactly what he was doing. The champion never shied away from stirring the pot and generating buzz. This is a trait he shares with the one and only Conor McGregor. If he could pull off a clash with Umar Nurmagomedov, it would resemble something like the epic heights of ‘Khabib vs. Conor.’
