During the recent UFC 292, Sean O’Malley was able to get the win against Aljamain Sterling. The victory has now put him on top of the Bantamweight Division. This also means that O’Malley now faces multiple threats from potential fighters. Arguably the most celebrated among them all would be the former champion, Henry Cejudo.

Sean O’Malley has been credited for his excellent combat skills within the octagon. His training team is led by head coach Tim Welch, a former Bellator fighter. Welch has been alongside O’Malley since the very first day. He recently mocked Cejudo on Submission Radio by offering to help him with his takedown defense.

Henry Cejudo is an Olympic gold medal winner and is widely known for his ground game. Welch said, “We could help him with his takedown defense. Because when Aljo put Henry on the cage, he took Henry down, when Aljo put Suga on the cage, fresh, he couldn’t take Suga down.” Cejudo is one of the three fighters who were defeated by Aljo during his title defense.

Suga Sean put a stop to the Funkmaster’s dominance over the division. He did it with a strong countershot in the second round. Cejudo, during his fight with Sterling, could not do any significant damage. His grappling was ineffective against Sterling’s defense. Even before O’Malley had won the title, he and Cejudo had been involved in several vocal altercations.

Sean O’Malley’s title win has now provided many top bantamweight contenders to try for the belt. He personally wants to face the sixth-ranked Marlon Vera next. Whoever his first title defense may be against, O’Malley will have to be at his best.

The bantamweight division has been forever changed by Sean O’Malley. His win over Aljamain Sterling now puts him on top of the weight class. He is now vulnerable to the most brutal top ten fighters on the entire UFC roster. The division has fighters like Merab Dvalishvili, Henry Cejudo, and of course Sterling too. The former champ had been able to keep the division in check.

Immediately after the title win, O’Malley called out Marlon Vera. Vera is the only fighter to defeat O’Malley in his MMA career. Chito Vera is a lurking danger too. Fighters like Cejudo have the reputation of once being a double champ. There are clearly fighters in the division with much more experience and possibly ground-level skills than Suga Sean.

O’Malley has been a promising candidate for the title since the start. But with a competitive division like this, he will be tested to his limits. For now, he must train and wait for his new challenge.
