The announcement of the Petr Yan vs Sean O’Malley fight has been a shocker for almost everyone in the world but not the Suga Show. The rising bantamweight believes he is one of the biggest names in the division and a matchup against Yan makes perfect sense to him.
The fighter also believes that the former champion won’t be his regular self during the fight against Sean. Sean O’Malley has never faced an opponent as high ranked as Petr Yan in his UFC career. The fighter has been entertaining in all of his fights but is yet to taste a real test inside the octagon.
His last fight against Pedro Munhoz was supposed to be his first real test but the fight came to an uneventful end. It seems like the Yan fight will finally give us the answers about O’Malley and his skills to face the top flight of the division.

“Petr is the guy to see how good I really am”- Sean O’Malley wants to test his abilities against Petr Yan at UFC 280
While many believe O’Malley will succumb to the pressure, he claims he will go out there and establish himself as one of the best bantamweights on planet earth. Talking to MMA Fighting before UFC 277, he said, “I don’t really want that to be my mindset going into this fight, ‘Well if I lose, I lose to the No. 1 guy.’ That’s what it is though. But I just believe in creating these powerful moments, these magical moments, and I think this is how superstars are created.”
He added, “I go out there and starch Petr Yan, Oct. 22 in Abu Dhabi, that’s massive. That is how superstars are born and I just feel like this is a perfect, perfect fight in my career. Perfect time, perfect opponent. It’s just my time to go out there.”
“I’m just excited about the opportunity, and I believe I’ll capitalize on the opportunity. I think the higher level guys I fight, the better ‘Suga’ you guys are going to get. I’ve not been able to show my true MMA skills inside the octagon. I really did think Pedro was going to be the one to bring it out of me. It wasn’t, obviously. That went how it went, but I think Petr is the guy to see how good I really am,” Suga concluded.
