Sean O’Malley defeated Marlon Vera at UFC 299 to secure his first UFC title defense. He did so in spectacular fashion as he dominated Vera round after round to win on the judges’ scorecards. Soon, ‘Suga’ revealed his plans for his next fight. He rekindled his beef with Ilia Topuria and called the featherweight champion for a super fight.
At the post-fight presentations, Sean O’Malley wasted no time calling out Ilia Topuria. He boastingly asked the UFC CEO Dana White to book a private jet to Spain and book his fight with the featherweight champion. He reasoned his excitement to fight Topuria to challenging himself by going up a weight class and taking on a dangerous opponent. Here is what he said:
Dana, give me a jet to Spain baby! I'm coming for Ilia Topuria. If he doesn't want it - nah, F**k it! I want Ilia baby. Give me Ilia. He's a scary fu****g dude. Ilia excites me, going up a weight class excites me but honestly I'm here for whatever. Ilia's the exciting fight for the people.Sean O’Malley via UFC 299 octagon interview
Sean O’Malley’s callout to Ilia Topuria erupted the Miami crowd, suggesting their interest in the matchup. However, with Merab Dvalishvili having earned his spot to challenge for the 135lbs title, ‘Suga’ faced criticism online. As such, he also addressed it in his post-fight speech, welcoming a matchup with the #1 bantamweight contender. But, his preference remained Ilia Topuria.
Ilia Topuria and Sean O’Malley have exchanged heated words on X even before the two became UFC champions. As such, this fight was in the making for a while now. The two UFC stars knocking out dominant champions and their thrilling fight style made it an exciting matchup. Due to Topuria’s dreams of headling the 80,000 seater Real Madrid stadium, ‘Suga’ wanted a piece of it. However, he wanted to produce another upset, just like his title win against Aljamain Sterling.

Fu****g piece of s**t. Now, I'm so mad. I'm so pissed bro. I'm so Pissed! He (Sean O'Malley) still don't call me out. C'mon bro! I'm number one contender, fight me bro...You're a scarry (scared) little skinny guy. So, you wanna call somebody who's not going to fight you.Merab Dvalishvili (via UFC X)
