Alexander Volkanovski and Beneil Daruish and Sean O'Malley
Pulling off a prank, Sean O’Malley has tweeted that he is going to be the backup fighter for Islam Makhachev vs Charles Oliveira at UFC 280 after Alexander Volkanovski and Beneil Dariush stated the same. O’Malley is popular within the MMA community for being quite a prankster. Unlike most of the fighters in the industry, ‘Suga’ likes to approach things light-heartedly and is often seen posting hilarious content on the internet.
Recently, Sean seems to have pulled another prank out of his bag. He took to his Twitter to make fun of the uncertainty about the backup fighter for the main event at UFC 280. Trolling this whole situation, Sean O’Malley has hilariously tweeted, “UFC just informed me I will be the backup fighter for the main event and co-main”.
Sean O’Malley is himself on the card of UFC 280, as he is set to face Petr Yan. Hence, his chances of appearing for the lightweight title fight are certainly off the cards. The UFC has not officially made any comments on the whole situation regarding the backup fighter.
Beneil Dariush and Alexander Volkanovski trade words ahead of UFC 280
The main event at UFC 280 features a mouth-watering clash between Islam Makhachev and Charles Oliveira. A fight of such proportions is usually the centre of all the talks. First, Beneil Dariush claimed that he was told he would be the replacement fighter for the main event.
Later, UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski announced that he will be the official backup fighter. It’s known to anyone following Volkanovski that he has had his eyes on the lightweight championship for quite sometime. All of this led to a back and forth of words on the internet between both fighters. Appearing on SiriusXM, Dariush said, “I’m not sure if [Alexander Volkanovski] is playing games or if the UFC is playing games.”
In response, Volkanovski appeared on The MMA Hour and said that he was not playing any games. ‘The Great’ said, “Maybe they did tell you you could be very early, whether this was a couple of months ago, whether his manager had that conversation saying that you will be, and he just assumed he was and hasn’t looked into it since, I don’t know. But my corners are being flown up. I’m getting paid for this, all that type of stuff. It’s locked in. I’m not playing any games.“
