Henry Cejudo may well be on his way to make a return to the Octagon. His opponent is bantamweight contender Merab Dvalishvili. Cejudo hasn’t fought in the octagon since May. On that occasion, he suffered a split decision loss against Aljamain Sterling at UFC 288 for the Bantamweight title. Cejudo was also slated to fight Marlon Vera in August but pulled out due to an injury. The probability has been hinted at by the manager, Ali Abdelaziz. And the world had been taken by storm with this sudden prospect.

I like Merab you know; umn, great guy. Great fighter. One of the best guys in the world, I truly believe so,” said Abdelaziz, reporting to The Schmo. He further said, “Him and Henry offer – December; I don’t think it’s going to happen. Now the offers in January!” He says Cejudo has agreed to take on the opponent, with Dvalishvili being the guy with the subsequent title.

Cejudo had thrown his name into the mix as a potent next opponent, with the aim of facing Sean O’Malley. This was after the latter captured the Bantamweight title from Sterling in the main event of UFC 292. However, his manager has now hinted that he has agreed to take on Dvalishvili in January. This is a little surprising for sure, but not to O’Malley himself, who is ecstatic at the prospect of the fight.

Currently, Dvalishvili is on a massive nine-win streak, after he beat former champion Petr Yan in March. He is also a close friend and training partner of Sterling himself and hence had bowed out from title contention previously. But with O’Malley, he has now expressed interest for a shot at the title. If Dvalishvili vs. Cejudo comes to fruition, it would be a hyped-up Bantamweight match. Both men are steadily working their way toward the title shot. UFC 297 is expected to take place on January 20, with Toronto being the possible location for the promotion. The status of the match is unconfirmed.

Cejudo had willingly relinquished the UFC Bantamweight title, 3 years ago, and abruptly jumped the gun on his retirement announcement. He did this after defeating Dominick Cruz at UFC 249. After that, he fought Sterling for the 135-pound championship bout and lost. He believed he did what he could, despite it being a lackluster match. This was his first match in three years. Now, Cejudo (16-2 MMA) will fight for the first time in a long while. Recently, he has recovered from a serious injury but is now ready to get back into action.
