Sean O’Malley recently accused the MMA managers of exploiting fighters, especially the young and up-and-comers in the business. O’Malley honestly answered about the role of an MMA manager with the media during a media scrum for UFC 292.

O’Malley answered the media about MMA managers being manipulative, saying, “There is high-level scumbags out there and they are good at being scumbags. The challenger has promised to explain further about “Scumbag Managers” after his victory at UFC 292. He will fight for the bantamweight title against incumbent Aljamain “Funk Master” Sterling at the TD Garden in Boston. The fight serves as the main event for UFC 292.

The Montana native has been vocal about a manager’s non-existent role in an athlete’s professional life under a UFC contract. O’Malley manages contract negotiations with the UFC brass all by himself. O’Malley’s views on certain managers by calling them scumbags have alerted to a more significant issue at play. Managers accumulate wealth by pocketing a share of the fighter’s earnings, ranging from 5 to 20 percent. Daniel Cormier has also come in support of O’Malley’s statements.

O’Malley’s next fight against Aljamain Sterling could be his ticket to superstardom. “Suga” last fought Petr Yan at UFC 280 in October 2022, winning by a controversial split decision. Even though Sterling is scrutinized as a villain and underappreciated by large sections of the MMA community, O’Malley has admitted Sterling’s status as the greatest bantamweight champion in UFC history.

“Suga” Sean O’Malley would face arguably the greatest bantamweight in UFC history in the main event of UFC 292. The title challenger is on a 5-fight unbeaten streak, winning four post-fight bonuses. The champion is coming off his 3rd consecutive title defense, a UFC record in the bantamweight division. Sterling’s grappling prowess has helped him overpower his opponents. On the other hand, O’Malley’s striking proficiency got him to the big dance.

Sterling is looking at his last fight in bantamweight as he has suggested going up to featherweight to challenge Alexander Volkanovski for the title. O’Malley wants to win and defend the title against former foe Marlon Vera. Vera is the only person to defeat O’Malley professionally. A title would give O’Malley more financial opportunities for his existing brand.

There is no shortage of contenders in the bantamweight division for the UFC. The likes of Marlon Vera, Cory Sandhagen, and Henry Cejudo are waiting in the wings for a title shot. After UFC 292, the promotion goes to the Oceanic region for the next pay-per-view event, which is headlined by a middleweight championship fight between Israel Adesanya and Sean Strickland.
