Sean O'Malley and Conor McGregor
UFC bantamweight champion “Suga” Sean O’Malley has achieved superstar status after his incredible performance at UFC 292. The champ has his future plans laid out for his career. After the fight, O’Malley mentioned some potential opponents like Marlon Vera, Henry Cejudo, and boxer Gervonta Davis.
In an interview with ESPN, O’Malley claimed that he plans to attain a ‘Conor McGregor level of popularity ‘. The champ’s plan includes defending the belt once or twice in his division, with maybe some knockout finishes. O’Malley also mentioned going up in weight classes but has clearly stated that he does not plan to fight the featherweight champ Alexander Volkanovski. O’Malley sees Ilia Topuria as a potential opponent in the 145 lbs division. Gervonta Davis was another one of the big names mentioned by O’Malley in the interview.
Many bantamweights have also commented on O’Malley’s success with some of them lining up for a title shot. The likes of Henry Cejudo and Merab Dvalishvili seemed unsatisfied by the UFC 292 result and are planning on changing it soon. The 135lbs division includes a lot of great matchups for the champ and it will be a sight to see as “Suga” plans to defend his title against them.
Sean O’Malley is certainly on his way to re-enact McGregor’s fame. The knockout against Aljamain Sterling showed glimpses of McGregor’s rise to the top after his victory against Jose Aldo. These past days in the UFC have shown the world the depth of Sean O’Malley’s potential. Nobody can see the future but if O’Malley keeps doing the impossible in his further career, no one will be able to stop him from achieving his dream.

UFC bantamweight champion Sean O’Malley has warned fellow bantamweight Marlon Vera to stop the disrespect. Prior to UFC 292, O’Malley stated that he planned to fight Vera after his fight against Aljamain Sterling. This challenge was not taken well by Vera who was fighting on the same card as O’Malley. Vera said some disrespectful things at UFC 292 press conferences which the bantamweight champ addressed in his podcast.
O’Malley asked Vera to be careful with his words or he might end up losing the title shot. “Suga”, who is the champion of the division does hold a say in his fights including the UFC. The champ also warned him to settle down or the in-demand title shot would eventually go to No.4 ranked bantamweight contender Henry Cejudo.
Vera is the only opponent who has ever defeated Sean O’Malley in the octagon. He entered back into bantamweight popularity after winning his recent bout against Pedro Munhoz at UFC 292. A title shot could be an incredible opportunity for “Chito”, but the fans need to be patient to see how this rivalry plays out in the future.
