Sean O’Malley flexes pay-per-view gains. Says he can do twice as much as Sterling-Cejudo did at UFC 288. O’Malley challenged Aljamain Sterling in the octagon for a title match after he beat Cejudo via split decision.
Sean O’Malley repeatedly insists that Aljamain Sterling and Henry Cejudo’s main event at UFC 288 last week did nowhere near what should be a good pay-per-view sale. In his opinion, he could do much better for the UFC and bring in much more sales for the promotion. In his interview in The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, O’Malley mentions all of this saying, “Now that Aljo beat Henry, I mean, me vs. Aljo is still a really big fight. I think me vs. Henry is a little bit bigger fight, but you know, not much different, those guys are similar draws. I’m very curious what the pay-per-views sales did for this fight, you know, I think me vs. Aljo could double it…Or I could double it sorry.”
The fight is definitely destined to be one of the biggest Bantamweight title fights of this year. Sugar Sean is insanely popular on social media. His fan base is eager to see him knock Aljo out and become the UFC Bantamweight Champion.
UFC champions get a cut of the pay-per-view buys based on the scale at which they attract sales for the main event. But Sean O’Malley reportedly would not be getting a percentage of the pay-per-view sales even though he has a much bigger fan base than Aljamain Sterling which makes him confident about doing bigger sales than Sterling-Cejudo fights in the first place. O’Malley says he will be paid well which is why he isn’t worried about it but Ariel Helwani found it absolutely “criminal”.
Will Sean O’Malley become the new UFC Bantamweight Champion?
Sean O’Malley ranks #2 in the UFC Bantamweight rankings. He looks forward to taking on Aljamain Sterling, the current UFC Bantamweight Champion for a title fight.
O’Malley has a professional record of 16 wins and 1 loss while Aljamain Sterling holds more experience with 23 wins and 3 losses. Moreover, Sterling has been on a winning streak and has not lost a fight since 2018. He recently defeated Henry Cejudo, the former two-division UFC Champion marking his third title defense as the champion.
Sugar Sean however is confident in himself. On The MMA Hour, O’Malley said that he recognizes ‘Aljo’ as a formidable foe.“I understand how dangerous of an opponent Aljo is. I know his strengths, I know his weaknesses,…“ But he believes he has the skills to exploit Aljo’s weaknesses and defeat him. …I’m very excited for the challenge and I do believe that I have the ability and the skills to go out there and shock the world.”
