Sean O’Malley‘s sole loss in his professional MMA career came against Marlon “Chito” Vera. Despite the loss, O’Malley considered him to be undefeated. Therefore, it was not a surprise to see him call out Vera after he won the title at UFC 292. Vera fought in the PPV undercard and defeated Pedro Munhoz via unanimous decision.
O’Malley’s callout of Vera drew mixed responses from fans and fighters as they felt Vera did not deserve a title shot. Nonetheless, O’Malley’s superstar status enabled him to get into the fight with Vera. O’Malley had faced off with Vera multiple times for promotion and recently saw him at the UFC 299 Fighter Hotel. O’Malley had always made similar comments whenever he got the opportunity. He had spoken about it during his appearance on Ariel Helwani‘s MMA Hour when Vera Facetimed Helwani. Even though the duo have engaged in trash talks, they have not had a physical altercation. Moreover, Vera even stated that he had no personal animosity towards O’Malley.
Nonetheless, Vera had used O’Malley’s relationship and lifestyle for trash talks at the UFC Seasonal Press Conference. Vera went on to troll O’Malley as he compared him to a popular adult content creator. Moreover, Sean Strickland, who was also at the event, joined Vera’s side to thrash O’Malley.

Sean O’Malley recently claimed that he was a better fighter than Conor McGregor when he was the best at 145lbs. Nonetheless, O’Malley had praised McGregor for what he did for UFC and MMA. O’Malley’s recent interaction with Vera at the Fighter Hotel did not go well with some fans. They saw it as an inferior version of McGregor’s pre-fight trash talks. However, others liked what O’Malley had done.
