Israel Adesanya exacted a measure of revenge on Alex Pereira at UFC 287 in Miami. He defeated ‘Poatan’ in their MMA rematch to reclaim the 185lbs title gold. Sean O’Malley faces Marlon Vera in a rematch at UFC 299, also in Miami. “Suga” hopes to replicate Adesanya’s performance in his maiden title defense. O’Malley recently warned off Vera, yet again, by threatening to knock him out.

The bantamweight champion bagged his title with a fateful TKO of Aljamain Sterling, at UFC 292. Much to the latter’s dismay though, he chose #6 ranking “Chito” Vera rather than top contenders, for his first defense. This is because Vera happens to be the only career loss in his 17-1 pro-MMA statistics. Currently, speaking with CBS Sports’ Shakiel Mahjouri ahead of UFC 299, on his YouTube channel ‘Shak MMA‘, here’s what he had to say:

[Israel Adesanya] knocked out Alex Pereira in their rematch [in Miami]. You know what I mean. So I'm just gonna have to go out there and do the same thing. Knock 'Chito' out in the rematch, and rewrite history. It will be beautiful.

At his only career defeat, at UFC 252 in 2020, after landing a calf slicer that hit his opponent’s peroneal nerve, “Chito” compromised O’Malley’s stance. The kick caused “Suga” to temporarily lose feeling in his foot, making him vulnerable to strikes. Finished via ground-and-pound, the bantamweight has repeatedly shrugged off his defeat due to its nature. Subsequently, he has faced much backlash on the claims of undefeated status.

Now, channeling his inner Adesanya, “Suga” wants to consequently enact UFC 287’s ground-and-pound to exact his revenge. Concurrently though, he isn’t wrong in choosing so; Adesanya vs. Pereira happens to be MMA Junkie’s and MMA Fighting’s 2023 Knockout of the Year.

Every time Sean O’Malley has dissed Marlon Vera after UFC 299 match announcement

Sean O’Malley squares it off with Marlon Vera at UFC 299, in Miami. UFC’s top honcho Dana White announced the much-hyped title fight last November. “Chito” happens to be a lone blemish in his record, and he is set on rectifying that. Recently, he hinted that he might even go for Israel Adesanya’s grounding, like UFC 287, and what followed after.

But this is not the only time O’Malley has gibed at the to-be opponent or vowed to knock him out. Check out a few more instances, where “Suga” took to his tweets and claimed as such –

The bantamweight titleholder has let in on his resolve for a TKO win yet again, just like UFC 292. His famed knockout was proclaimed to go down in history And “Suga” has taken that to heart, set on recreating it.

Recently, O’Malley also let on his grand scheme of aspirations to reach ‘Conor McGregor‘ levels of stardom, with back-to-back victories. Riding into this new year, the fighter had already resolved to be one the biggest names in sports history by the end of 2024.
