Currently, Alexander Volkanovski remains the top pound-for-pound fighter in the UFC. He rose through the featherweight ranks from 2016 and beat the best fighters in the division over the years. Aljamain Sterling remains the bantamweight king, who has targeted Volkanovski for a title fight. Sterling is considering moving up a division and could fight Volk if he defeats Sean O’Malley at UFC 292.

In a recent interview, Sean O’Malley’s coach was asked about his thoughts on Sterling vs. Volkanovski. He said, “I truly think Volkanovski is pound for pound the best fighter on Earth right now; as good as Aljo is, as strong as he is, as good of a grappler he is, I think Volkanovski would batter Aljo.” Volkanovski himself had tried to take over the lightweight title at UFC 284.

Sterling won the bantamweight belt when Petr Yan got disqualified for an illegal knee. Ever since, he has defended his title three times. A master grappler coupled with unorthodox striking, Sterling is in the form of his life and looks unstoppable. This may still not be enough to beat Volkanovski. The featherweight champ is on a level of his own. He dominated previous champions like Max Holloway and talents like Yair Rodriguez and Brian Ortega.

Volk came very close to capturing the lightweight title against Islam Makhachev at UFC 284. The UFC 292 PPV is set to feature Sterling and O’Malley in the main event. This will be his fourth title defense. The skill set of Sterling could overpower O’Malley in Boston, but the featherweight title might seem far away from his reach.

Title contender Sean O’Malley is one of the most accurate strikers in the UFC. He nabbed the title shot after defeating the former bantamweight champion Petr Yan. O’Malley has a professional record of 16 wins and one loss. His fame and style match his skills and power. He is set to fight the current bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling at UFC 292.

Sterling has successfully defended his title three times consecutively. He defeated Petr Yan, T.J. Dillashaw, and Henry Cejudo to retain his title. Cejudo and Dillashaw are legends of the lower-weight classes. Nevertheless, it is difficult to predict how he will perform against a fighter like O’Malley. Sterling has the grappling advantage, but O’Malley’s striking could pose a problem.

The speed of O’Malley could put Sterling in danger. Considering y=the earlier victims of clean punches, Sterling will have to keep the fight on the ground. This will be O’Malley’s first shot at the title, and he will look to knock Sterling out. Only time will tell if Sterling overcomes Sean O’Malley in their title fight.
