Sean O’Malley and Ryan Garcia exchanged some heated words last month. The two combat sports stars teased a potential fight between them. ‘King RY’ even looked confident in beating the MMA fighter at his own game. Now, O’Malley’s coach, Tim Welch, gave his prediction of how an MMA fight and a boxing match would go for Garcia against this pupil.
Firstly, Tim Welch completely ridiculed the idea of an MMA fight between them and stated Sean O’Malley would make it a point to knock out Ryan Garcia. However, he analyzed a boxing match between them and believed it would pose a tough challenge. Here is what he said:
(In MMA) Sean (O'Malley) would make it a point to knock (Ryan Garcia) out. Sean to box Ryan would be a serious challenge. But, it's hard for me to say it's not possible with Sean. He has so much belief in himself and he's such a good athlete. There's ways for him to win that fight. There is. (Sean) could KO Ryan Garcia.Tim Welch (via The MMA Hour)

Further, Tim Welch claimed Sean O’Malley’s power could come in handy with the 8-ounce boxing gloves. Also, with O’Malley’s creativity and striking prowess, Welch believed Ryan Garcia wouldn’t have a sparring partner to replicate his style. All these factors heightened his confidence in his pupil to win against the experienced boxer.
With the animosity between Sean O’Malley and Ryan Garcia, a fight between them has the potential to star-struck the combat world. However, it looked very unlikely. O’Malley recently defended his bantamweight title at UFC 299 and has Merab Dvalishvili lined up. As such, his boxing ideas are put to rest as of now.
Sean O’Malley previews his potential MMA fight with Ryan Garcia
Last month, Ryan Garcia initiated a feud with the UFC bantamweight champion Sean O’Malley. As such, they went back and forth on X and numerous interviews. Once, ‘King RY’ made a bold claim that he would win against O’Malley in an MMA fight. This received a brutal response from the UFC champion. However, ‘Suga’ further detailed how difficult an MMA fight would play out for the boxer.

On his TimboSugar Show on YouTube, Sean O’Malley broke down a potential MMA fight with Ryan Garcia. O’Malley explained how different the MMA striking department was compared to boxing. He also pondered using kicks, takedowns, and submissions. Here is what ‘Suga’ said:
I could take him down and choke him. But, it's like I would kick him in the fu****g body, I would kick his little sticks, I would do whatever the f**k I wanted to him. I could box him with MMA gloves. It's a different sport just with those little MMA gloves. The distance is different.Sean O’Malley (Via Timbo Sugar Show)
While the fight between the MMA star and the boxing star interested the fanbase, the stars has to align for it to go down. Currently, Ryan Garcia has a boxing bout booked against Devin Haney in April. Sean O’Malley just won against Marlon Vera at UFC 299.
