As expected at the UFC 293 press conference, Sean Strickland and Israel Adesanya went off against each other. The verbal warfare went deep, with both fighters exchanging facts about each other that question their identity. The interaction would certainly help boost the sales of UFC 293 pay-per-view
When a media member asked about what he would do if victorious, Israel Adesanya replied that he would win and do a cool dance. Strickland added,” And he’s gonna hold up a Chinese flag and f**cking swear allegiance to the CCP. Grow a pair of f**king nuts.” Adesanyya countered by pointing out Strickland’s signing with Monster Energy. Strickland got one better by saying, “Let’s talk about whenever Dricus won, Izzy is on a world stage and he goes up in the cage to call out Dricus and he f**kung race baits him.” Strickland further expressed his contempt for having a champion like Adesanya in his division.
Strickland has used the allegations of Adesanya being a Chinese Communist Party sympathizer for a long time. The allegation stems from a video of the champion showing his love for China during his kickboxing career. Adesanya lived in China during his days as a professional kickboxer. Adesanya along with fighters like Dominick Cruz are also against Monster Energy, particularly Hans Molenkamp. Israel Adesanya, along with Alexander Volkanovski, signed with Prime Sports Drink.
The press conference has ended, and all that is left is the weigh-ins and the fight event. Sean Strickland has vowed to stand and bang with the champion but it remains to be seen. Extreme Couture is a wrestling-heavy MMA gym, and wrestling is the presumed weakness of Israel Adesanya.
When Israel Adesanya and Sean Strickland locked horns at UFC 276
UFC 276 could be labeled as the beginning of the feud between Israel Adesanya and Sean Strickland. UFC 276 was held during the 10th International Fight Week, and the main event featured Israel Adesanya vs. Jared Cannonier. Strickland faced Alex Periera in the featured bout of the main card.
The interesting thing about the UFC 276 was that neither Adesanya nor Strickland were interested in trash-talking their respective opponents. UFC 276 was a welcome party for the brash, outspoken trash talk of Sean Strickland. The irony in the incident was that the fight between Strickland and Periera ended the same way Adesanya predicted. It was this victory over Strickland that earned a title shot for Periera.
The pre-fight presser of UFC 293 is presumed to be the continuation of UFC 276, and it certainly delivered. Interestingly, Manel Kape joined the fray with his trash talk over Kai Kara-France, which ended with a confrontation with Adesanya.
