Sean Strickland is the most controversial champion in UFC history. This is particularly due to his outspoken remarks on matters. His views have got him at the loggerheads of many on the internet and in real life. Strickland is very active on X (Formerly Twitter) and is known to make sensitive remarks on it.
His recent tirade on X is against the Nelk Boys, a group of young YouTubers. Interestingly, Strickland even appeared on their FullSend Podcast before his title fight against Israel Adesanya at UFC 292. However, he even berated them whilst being interviewed by them. Strickland recently roasted them for being sycophants to Sean O’Malley in a tweet. This is what he had to say against them in his recent tweet:
Watched a nelk boys podcast and I find it so ironic that the nelk BOYS own a beer company that is marketed to dads(MEN) when they 1. Don't have kids and 2. They act like little bitches and push filth. I wish I could of been there for that pandering brain storm session. GeniusSean Strickland on X
Apparently, Strickland was offended by the YouTubers marketing their beer company focusing on men with children. However, Strickland took offense to the fact that they did not have children. Strickland’s views on society are extremely conservative and he has a history of bereating the Gen-Z.
When it was announced that Bud Light would be the official beer partner of the UFC starting in 2024, Strickland vocally criticized the UFC. It was due to Bud Lights’ previous association with Dylan Mulvaney, a transw*man. Strickland is extremely critical of the LGBTQ community and his dissent to Bud Light was no surprise.
Sean Strickland headlining UFC 297 against Dricus Du Plessis in Vancouver
Dricus Du Plessis will get his much-awaited middleweight title shot against Sean Strickland at UFC 297. Dana White recently announced the main events for the first three PPVs of 2024. There were rumors swirling of Islam Makhachev and Charles Oliveira headlining the event. However, Dana White‘s recent social media video post put an end to the rumor.
Interestingly, Sean Strickland received the title shot and ultimately secured victory against Israel Adesanya after Dricus Du Plessis withdrew due to injury. Against all odds, Strickland defeated Adesanya to become the undisputed middleweight champion. Initially, there were discussions about the winner of the bout between Khamzat Chimaev and Kamaru Usman at UFC 294 earning the title shot. However, Khamzat Chimaev won the fight but delivered a lackluster performance. Furthermore, he sustained ligament damage during the fight.
Many were against the idea of Chimaev getting the title shot and felt that Du Plessis was the deserving candidate. Du Plessis, in his recent bout, defeated former middleweight champion Robert Whitaker via second-round TKO. With the victory, he obtained the number-one ranking in the division. As of now, Strickland is a small betting favorite for his title defense.
