While Sean Strickland couldn’t do it, he believes Khamzat Chimaev is the chosen one to defeat Alex Pereira if the two are ever scheduled to fight each other. Strickland, a #7 ranked UFC middleweight who last fought at UFC 276, fought none other than Pereira himself on the fight card who knocked Strickland out in the first round. Pereira is now scheduled to fight UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya. Pereira and Adesanya have fought each other before twice in the sport of kickboxing where Pereira won both the times.
Chimaev is an 11-0 undefeated welterweight fighter who’s most likely to fight for the welterweight title in his next fight or after his next win. Chimaev came in the UFC making waves of his presence amongst the MMA world when he defeated 2 opponents at 2 different weight classes within a span of just 10 days. Chimaev’s last win came out to be the biggest of his career when he defeated Gilbert Burns via unanimous decision but he also proved his heart in the fight.

In an interview with Helen Yee, Sean Strickland talks about his loss to Pereira, his reluctance to comeback to Twitter, his return to the Octagon and the press conferences and much more. Strickland than ponders on how a fight between Chimaev and Alex Pereira would go and considering Pereira is the one in the upper weight class, Strickland’s pick for the winner may surprise you.
“I think Chimaev could pull that off,” says Strickland “Chimaev’s gonna do what he does and he wrestles… If Chimaev just go in there and he just wrestle hard I think he could grind out three rounds with him and take a W (win). But again, no one wants to see that s**t, it’s but really it’s kickboxing, come on,“ concludes Strickland.
