Sean Strickland, the current UFC middleweight champion shared an unusual viewpoint on having the UFC title belt. In a recent video, Strickland expressed his open sentiments during an interview with journalist Caroline Pearce.

When questioned about his time as a UFC champion, Sean Strickland brushed down the value of the achievement. He added that while it’s fun for the first hour, the enthusiasm is fleeting, and becoming a UFC champion doesn’t matter in the long term for him. Strickland emphasized that when he retires in five or six years, the title will be of little relevance. Instead, he stated that his major goal is to accumulate a significant fortune.

I mean, it’s cool for like, the first hour. But at the end of the day guys, it don’t matter. You know, when I’m retired in five, six years, it don’t matter. I just want a big f**king bank account.

This viewpoint contrasts with the conventional narrative in combat sports. The winning of the title is frequently seen as the apex of a fighter’s career. Strickland’s concentration on financial success above championship reputation indicates a practical approach to his work and a distinct set of values.

He is supportive of the fact that he got it out but also highlighted his hypocrisy. Du Plessis brought up Strickland’s previous statements regarding Khalil Rountree, in which he criticized Rountree for expressing emotion and labeled him a “beta male” for sobbing. This hypocrisy does not sit well with Dricus Du Plessis.

Du Plessis accused Strickland of hypocrisy, claiming that he did the same thing on a larger scale during his emotional interview with Theo Von.
