Sean Strickland lost the middleweight title to Dricus Du Plessis at UFC 297. However, his teammate at Extreme Couture, Chris Curtis, won via split decision against Marc-Andre Barriault at UFC 297. Strickland was an unlikely favorite against the South African Du Plessis in Canada. However, Curtis did not get the same treatment in his fight against Andre Barriault.

Curtis saw firsthand the life of Strickland as the UFC champion. In a recent interview with MMA Junkie, Curtis spoke about and even revealed his disinterest in becoming a champion. This is what he said.

Being in Toronto, it was cr*zy to see the amount of love that Strickland got from the fans..... How much the script has flipped and like how much everybody loves him, it's cool to see. At the exact same time, this fight week made me realize I never want that for myself. Like, absolutely not......The level of fervor is the only word to use, and it's just like getting off the bus and him getting swarmed, walking down the street, you know, people being swarmed. It's—I can't do that. I am not that person, and this fight week made me realize I never want that for myself.

Strickland’s fight with Dricus Du Plessis won the Fight of the Night at UFC 297. However, Chris Curtis had a lackluster fight with Barriault. Moreover, Curtis even went off at commentator Dominick Cruz, who described the Curtis vs. Barriault as a sparring match.

Curtis is one of Sean Strickland’s closest friends. The two have a podcast on YouTube, The Man Dance with Sean Strickland and Chris ‘The Action Man’ Curtis. Moreover, Strickland did not accept the loss to Du Plessis as he felt the judges robbed him. UFC CEO Dana White thought Strickland won the fight but agreed the fight was close.

Curtis had already revealed his disinterest in becoming a champion to MMA Junkie reporters. He also revealed his thought process to them. This is what he said about it.

My thought process is kind of like, you see the Iron Man movies when he's got like 15 screens up, like holographic screens up. There's always like 15 things going on. People are like, 'You're never in the moment. I get yelled at for not being in the moment a lot, and like, 'You're never in the moment.' I'm working on it, man. The crippling ADHD is real.

Curtis has a 16-year-old son from a previous relationship who is indifferent to Curtis’ UFC career. He hilariously revealed that his son FaceTimed him at school to flex but did not show any appreciation when at home. Curtis also has a baby daughter from his current relationship.
