Sean Strickland just defeated Israel Adesanya at UFC 293 in a massive upset. Eric Nicksick was the man behind Strickland in guiding him in the right direction. Even Israel Adesanya had high praise for the head coach at Extreme Couture.

The aftermath of Strickland’s victory has been a fun ride for Nicksick. Interestingly, Nicksick coached Francis Ngannou to win the UFC heavyweight title. Nicksick spoke to Luke Thomas of The Morning Kombat recently. He talked about his interaction with Israel Adesanya backstage. The former middleweight champion said, “You saved that man’s life.” The comment was in response to Nicksick reading Adesanya’s plan in the middle of the fight and loudly conveying it to Strickland. Eric Nicksick does not have a background in MMA as he comes from an American Football background.

Sean Strickland defeated Israel Adesanya in one of the greatest upsets in UFC history at UFC 293. UFC 293 was deemed a weak card, but spectacular finishes excited the packed crowd in Sydney, Australia. Strickland was a big underdog in the fight, and by the beginning of the fifth round, the live odds shifted in favor of the underdog. The heated animosity between the fighters ended in mutual respect after the 5-round fight.

Alex Periera predicted a victory for Sean Strickland when everybody doubted him. Another person who predicted the win for Strickland was Merab Dvalishvili. Strickland trained with Periera after his loss to Jared Cannonier. Periera and Strickland faced off at UFC 276. The Brazilian won by KO in the first round. Interestingly enough, Alex Periera has said that Strickland’s demeanor inside the octagon scared him at UFC 276.

Eric Nicksick credit losses to Jared Cannonier and Alex Periera for Sean Strickland’s win at UFC 293

Sean Strickland had a six-fight win streak before he faced Alex Periera at UFC 276. He lost the bout via KO and his next bout via split decision to Jared Cannonier. Erick Nicksick was adamant that Jared Cannonier won the fight against Strickland purely on optics.

Nicksick clarified that optics matter in the judgment of the judges. He believed optics, audio sound, and aesthetics would sway small venue Apex cards. Nicksick took full responsibility for the loss to Cannonier. Nicksick also credited Alex Periera for sparring with Strickland as an important factor in the fight at UFC 293. Periera and Glover Texeira are good friends with Sean Stickland.

With Sean Strickland winning against Israel Adesanya, Periera has become the only man to defeat Adesanya and the other two guys to defeat Adesanya. Periera is informally called ‘the Boogeyman’ of “The Last Stylebender.”
