Sergei Pavlovich took out Curtis Blaydes in the first round, thus maintaining his first-round winning streak. Pavlovich and Blaydes faced each other this weekend at UFC Fight Night 222.
But the Russian wasn’t there only to fight. While in Vegas, he did some gambling too. A recent video of Pavlovich is going viral on Twitter. The fighter is reportedly seen trying out his luck at the slot machines. Interestingly, this all transpired before his impressive performance against Blaydes.
At the post-fight press conference, a reporter asked Sergei about his gambling endeavor. Pavlovich admitted he had never gambled or played any of the slot machines before, so it was all new for him. “A buddy of mine was like, ‘Here’s 100 bucks, go and try it.’ ,” he says.
Pavlovich then admitted that he lost everything while gambling. “Alright, I’ll tell you what happened. First I won, then I’m thinking, ‘Alright, maybe I’ll win some more.’ And then I lost everything,” he reveals. While Pavlovich couldn’t figure out his way around the slot machine, he had no issue putting down Curtis Blaydes.
Sergei Pavlovich on fighting Jon Jones
Sergei Pavlovich defeating Curtis Blaydes at UFC Fight Night 222 strengthens his application for the Heavyweight title. Jon Jones versus Stipe Miocic will happen later this year, and Sergei as well looks forward to fighting Jon Jones for the title.
Till then, Sergei says he’ll rest. “I’ll rest,” Pavlovich tells reporters. “I’ll eat. I’ll sleep. I’ll rest some more. I’ll wait.” The Russian says he has no problem fighting either Jones or Miocic. He says he’s indifferent to whoever wins and recognizes that either of them would be a challenging fight. “I wouldn’t say that either of them would be an easy fight,” Pavlovich says. “I mean, they’re both hard warriors so I would have to prepare for whoever it is, then be ready for whoever they give me.”
Pavlovich reveals his preparation strategy for Curtis Blaydes coming into the fight. “To be honest I was preparing for all five rounds,” Sergei says. “I thought the fight was going to go all five rounds. But once I realized I was getting him, there was no reason to keep the fight going longer. I had the opportunity to finish it early – that’s what I did.”
