Conor McGregor might have insulted and trash-talked UFC legend Jose Aldo to his face many times in the past during their matchup but deep down there lies a lot of respect for the Brazilian in the Irish UFC superstar.
Conor McGregor and Jose Aldo met each other in the octagon for the first time at UFC 194 in 2015. The fight between the two is undoubtedly one of the greatest featherweight matchups in the history of the promotion. The two fighters pushed each other to different levels and put on one of the most entertaining PPV fights for fans around the world.
Conor beat Jose via a vicious knockout in 13 seconds and secured his first belt in the UFC. That was just the beginning of success for the Irishman. Though there was a lot of mental warfare played by ‘The Notorious One’ leading up to the fight, McGregor is forever thankful to the Brazilian opponent for the opportunity.
Last year, Conor fought Dustin Poirier in a trilogy bout and ended up injuring his foot which sidelined him. During his recovery sessions, Conor spoke highly about Jose’s win and said he deserves more. “Good to see Aldo had a good win the other week, very happy to see that,” said Conor talking about Aldo’s win against Pedro Munhoz at UFC 265.

I would love him to do it again you know. He deserved more, I thought. But you know, a lot of respect for Jose Aldo.”
