Francis Ngannou made headlines due to his fight announcement against Tyson Fury. He will compete in a bout for the first time since January 2022. During his time away from the sport, he met with NBA star Shaquille O’Neal in a gym. The meeting between the two big men captured much media attention.
The meeting of Francis Ngannou and Shaquille O’Neal entertained the MMA fans. The MMA star approached Shaq at a gym while he was working out. Ngannou said, “You take up the whole building. You make me look little.” This was fascinating, considering how big and feared Ngannou is in the fighting world.
Shaquille O’Neal noticed that Ngannou had a very low body fat percentage and Ngannou proceeded to lift him. The camera then zoomed in on O’Neal alone, where the former NBA player said, “Yeah, that’s the first time I’ve been picked up.” It is probably worrying for Tyson Fury to see Ngannou picking up one of the biggest athletes in the world. Luckily for Fury, their bout remains a boxing match rather than an MMA bout.
Francis Ngannou turned down an opportunity to fight Jon Jones for a matchup against “The Gypsy King.” Ngannou has come a long way from his days of manual labor in the past. He has earned the respect of many athletes in various sports, including NBA champion Shaquille O’Neal.
Francis Ngannou explains his desire to build a unique legacy
The African fighter recently posted a video on social media portraying his pride in his work. The fighter rose through the ranks of the UFC’s heavyweight division defeating champion fighters like Alistair Overeem and Ciryl Gane. Ngannou has even bounced back from a dispute with the UFC by signing a promising contract with the PFL to continue his MMA career.
In the video, Francis explained his immense love for boxing. Ngannou stated that he always dreamt of boxing, and it’s what inspired him to pursue a career in the world of combat sports. The fighter also mentioned that he aims to fight in the boxing ring soon before entering back into the octagon in the PFL.
Francis Ngannou’s upcoming fight in Riyadh will be the biggest fight of his career so far. Although defeating arguably the best boxer in the world with no experience is daunting, Ngannou has the potential to do so.
