Shavkat Rakhmonov made his UFC debut in October 2020. He had his 26th birthday the day before the war. Alex Oliveira was his rival in the competition. Rakhmonov, a former M-1 welterweight champion, was a favorite against “Cowboy” Oliveira. The battle went well for Rakhmonov.

He was comparable to Oliveira in terms of striking, but his superior fight intelligence and situational awareness set him apart in his UFC debut. Oliveira felt it was time to drop levels and attempt a double leg takedown on Rakhmonov after a protracted struggle in the clinch against the fence.
