Vicente Luque is out of luck; not for the lack of trying. The promotion had Luque facing welterweight peer Ian Garry at UFC 296. However, Garry pulled out of the UFC 296 fight card due to a sudden case of pneumonia. Concurrently, as of now, the UFC Atlantic City card on March 30 needs to find another headliner. The 170lbs showdown between Sean Brady vs. Luque saw cancellation due to an unhealed injury. Sports coverage author Harry Mac, of thebookiesbasement.com first tweeted the info out.

However, Luque has been engaging in prolific social media rounds and appearances. He recently did a sitdown with Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson, discussing the non-existent racial divide in Brazil. With endorsements like Brasilia Luta Livre and Pump Supplements, he avidly upholds his origins. Speaking with Jackson, and co-host Bear Degidio on the ‘JAXXON‘ Podcast, he also talked about sparring his mother. He said –

I sparred her...and everybody was like 'You're crazy why you hitting your mom like that?' And I know she's tough...and I know that if I don't hit her she's going to be mad at me because she wanted to be real you know...she wanted that I wanna deserve this.

Luque was born in 1991, to father Vincente Luque, and mother – Maria Aparecida. His dad is from Chile and his mother is from Brazil; he, however, was born in New Jersey. The TUF 21 alum now has a family of his own with his wife Carolina Silveria. They also have a son, born in 2021. As such, he holds his family, especially his mother, in high regard. Check out some of their emotional snippets below.

Along with Kill Cliff FC, Vicente Luque trains at Blackzilians – Boca Raton, Florida. A term he quipped on during the podcast. Despite Brady vs. Luque being underway, Brady never actually signed a bout agreement as he’s dealt with an injury. So it is uncertain if Luque will still stay on, or if an entirely new headliner will happen at the Boardwalk Hall event.

Vicente Luque weighs in on his loss to Geoff Neal in August 2022

Vicente Luque is a prominent standout in the 170 lbs weight class division. The welterweight recently appeared on the ‘JAXXON‘ Podcast to talk about his fight trajectories, his association with Kill Cliff FC, and sparring with his mother.

With the moniker of ‘The Silent Assasin’ the fighter is a divisional mainstay. As of Dec. 2023, Vicente Luque also holds the #9 spot in official divisional listings.

However, not all fights are easy for the Muay Thai and BJJ practitioner. He faced a Round 3 KO loss to Geoff Neal, in a Fight Night of August 2022. Check out what he had to say about his brain hemorrhage incurred in the fallout.

Luque has quite a few career highlights up to this point.

He made his UFC debut on July 12, 2015, where he faced Michael Graves on the TUF: American Top Team vs. Blackzilians finale card. During his run, Luque has earned eight post-fight bonuses – four Performance of the Night and four Fight of the Night.

With 13 finishes, Vicente Luque is tied for the second most finishes in UFC welterweight history. He also ties with Thiago Alves and Li Jingliang for the 2nd most KOs in welterweight division history with 8.

But as apparent from the fighter’s account, even the best can have the worst day sometimes. Here’s hoping the Brazilian-American gets the best end of the stick, from here on out.
