“Let’s go”- Stephen Thompson heeds Dustin Poitier’s call for a fight on July 30
Stephen Thompson calls out Dustin Poirier
Dustin Poirier has an opponent that is willing to trade inside the octagon. Stephen Thompson has offered to be The Diamond’s next dance partner as he calls him out on Twitter.
Two of the nicest fighters in the UFC have an exchange on Twitter that suggests a potential fight between the two. Dustin Poirier and Stephen Thompson are both coming off losses and are in search of an opponent for their next bout. The two fighters are still top-ranked in their respective divisions but are willing to move weight classes to fight an exciting opponent.
Since his loss to Charles Oliveira in a title fight, Dustin has been very active on Twitter in search of his next potential opponent for a fight. Recently, Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson took the opportunity to call “The Diamond” out. “Hey @DustinPoirier I’m down to scrap! July 30th let’s go! #respectfully,” wrote Thompson in his recent tweet.
Stephen is coming off a loss to Belal Muhammad in 2021 and is on a two-fight losing streak. The former title contender has lost his fire for championship runs like Dustin and is looking to fight the best possible opponents available to him.

Dustin Poirier shows “respect” to Stephen Thompson in the replies
Following Stephen’s call out, Dustin didn’t have much to say about it but replied with “Respect”. It is fair to say that Poirier is not entirely excited about fighting someone like Wonderboy in his next bout. However, Poirier sure does want a fighter from the welterweight division. Nate Diaz is a name that has popped up several times in recent times from Poirier.
Dustin and Nate both publicly agreed to fight several times but the promotion just won’t make that fight happen. Dustin has a handful of options for his next fight and one of the most interesting opponents is Colby Covington. Not only do both fighters make an interesting fight stylistically, but the two also have history and will bring a lot of drama into the octagon.
Who do you think Dustin’s opponent should be for his next fight?
