The fight between Stipe Miocic and Jon Jones got canceled just a couple of weeks before the event. The two fighters were set to headline UFC 295 at Madison Square Garden in New York on Nov. 11. This was to celebrate the UFC’s 30th anniversary. Jones reportedly suffered a torn pectoral muscle during training and is to be out for eight months.
Miocic expressed his disappointment at the unfortunate turn of events. Speaking on his OnlyFans account, Miocic has said:
How did I feel when I woke up today? Like I got kicked in the nuts. In the morning, I woke up to my phone vibrating. It was dark, I had my son on top of me, trying to move and get my phone. I finally got my phone and had a text message from my manager saying my fight was off.
In response to this, the promotion has organized an interim title fight between Sergei Pavlovich and Tom Aspinall. Miocic reported on not being given the chance or opportunity to fight for the interim belt to stay on UFC 295, despite being in shape. He also mentioned being unsure who to fight next.
Miocic has stated he understands that this, however circumstantial, can befall any fighter. He has also wished a speedy recovery for Jones. To be the best, he understandably wants to beat the best. Hence, he wishes Jones to fully recover.
Chael Sonnen in suspended disbelief of Jon Jones’s recovery
Chael Sonnen believes that UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones would require more than eight months to recover. Jones had to recently pull out of his titular defense due to a pectoral injury (torn pectoral tendon). CEO Dana White reaffirmed it and arranged for a replacement bout. Meanwhile, the promotion has opted to book an interim title fight between Sergei Pavlovich and Tom Aspinall.
In a recent interview with TheMacLife, Sonnen said that Jones’ return isn’t happening any time soon. At least not within the time frame stated. Jones is still bound to the USADA drug testing pool. USADA retains its partnership with UFC for the rest of the year. Sonnen mocked that with the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency confiscating Jones’ needles and other vices, it is going to be a hard recovery.
Jon Jones is 36 years old. He’s going to be 37. They took his growth hormone and his testosterone away. This isn’t like the olden days where he can heal himself in record time. If he stays within the USADA pool, if it’s eight months, it’s going to be the full eight months.Chael Sonnen on TheMacLife
