Former UFC double champion Daniel Cormier was one of the most dominant fighters in the light heavyweight and heavyweight divisions. His championship reigns have led him to the title of a Hall of Famer. A recent online clip showing a street fight between two differently-sized individuals led to a throwback memory of Cormier’s fighting style.
In the clip, two individuals, one smaller in size while the other was built like a heavyweight, got into a street brawl. And the way the fight went was exactly as every viewer expected. The big guy absolutely rag-dolled his opponent by throwing him around on multiple occasions. The size difference clearly played a huge part in this fight, which many combat experts always inform about.
However, this clip gave a major throwback to Cormier’s fight style, which included his dominant wrestling throwdowns. In many of his fights, Cormier has ground and pounded his opponent in a similar fashion. Cormier’s wrestling IQ made him a highly technical fighter in the division. Much of his glory in both divisions came from his technically sound wrestling skills. His background as a former Olympic wrestler also helped him gain an upper hand over his opponents.
Currently, Cormier acts as an expert and also a commentator, along with the likes of Joe Rogan and Jon Anik. His knowledge of the fight game makes him a relevant analyst of the game. In his entire career, Cormier has faced ups and downs. However, he still goes down as one of the best to ever grace the octagon.
Daniel Cormier gives his take on Aljamain Sterling’s rematch situation
The future of the 135lbs division has caused some amount of chaos in the minds of MMA fans and experts. The MMA community has criticized Sean O’Malley’s decision to make his first title defense against Marlon ‘Chito’ Vera. On the other hand, former champion Aljamain Sterling has demanded a rematch considering his history in the division. However, Daniel Cormier has some differing opinions on the situation.

Cormier believed that Sterling deserved a shot at the rematch, but considering his relations with the UFC, the outcome did not look possible. Cormier explained that due to O’Malley’s say in the situation, Sterling might lose the shot at a rematch. The former double champ believed that the UFC makes important considerations from the champion’s point of view. This could be a major factor behind setting up Chito Vera as an opponent for the rematch.
‘Chito’ is not a part of the top 3 bantamweight, which includes the likes of Merab Dvalishvili and Henry Cejudo. Due to such reasons, many have disagreed with O’Malley’s call for this fight. However, as said by Cormier, O’Malley’s champion status puts him in the driver’s seat of the bantamweight’s future.
