“That’s another fight I would take”- Gregor Gillespie wants to fight Michael Chandler whom he once beat in college wrestling

“That’s another fight I would take”- Gregor Gillespie wants to fight Michael Chandler whom he once beat in college wrestling

Michael Chandler vs Gregor Gillespie

Gregor Gillespie recently slammed Tony Ferguson during a rant on Instagram. He said that the former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) interim lightweight champion refused to fight him. He revealed it’s senseless that after declining against him, Tony is calling Chandler for a fight. The argument on his side was that he beat Chandler in a wrestling bout in college. So, Tony calling out Chandler for a wrestling standout doesn’t make sense.

While revealing how Tony refused to fight him, Gregor said: “Dude I just got word again from my manager that Tony Ferguson will not accept the fight against me, bro. And then I see you online calling out fucking Chandler, saying it’s wrestling season, bro

Currently, Ferguson is in a slump as he has lost his last three fights against Justin Gaethje, Charles Oliveira, and Beneil Dariush. So, a defeat against a lower-ranked fighter like Gregor would hurt him more than a win against him.

Even though Gregor wants to fight Tony, he revealed that he would also take a fight against Chandler. “The Gift” revealed this while talking to MMA Junkie in an interview.

“That’s another fight I would take, I would love Michael Chandler fight too…Mike Chandler has been in some wars he needs a bit of a break and I get that. But, dude you didn’t need that long a break… I did beat Mike Chandler, not a lot of people know that.. it wasn’t a very close match… that was a 10-2 or 12-2”

Gillespie has previously beaten Chandler in a wrestling bout in the year 2009. Both met each other on a wrestling mat in the NCAA tournament that year where Gillespie beat Chandler fair and square with a 10-2.

He would certainly like to repeat the same inside the octagon. Gregor is currently 7-1 in the promotion and has an overall record of 14-1 in MMA. On the other hand, Chandler is coming from two straight losses. Who do you think should fight Gillespie? Do let us know in the comment section.
