Chan Sung Jung, a.k.a The Korean Zombie, retired from MMA after losing to Max Holloway at UFC Singapore. Holloway knocked TKZ out in the third round. Affectionately known as “The Korean Zombie,” the South Korean fighter has fought for the title twice in his UFC career.
TKZ is friends with South Korean rapper Jay Park. Brian Ortega slapped Jay Park before Ortega fought TKZ. The incident attained notoriety at that time. Recently, TKZ grazed the stage when Park performed on stage. TKZ’s walkout song, ‘Zombie’ by the ‘Cranberries,’ was sung by the entire crowd as a tribute to the retired UFC fighter from South Korea. The fan’s reaction live and on social media was highly emotional.
His last fight being at Singapore in Asia, was a fitting tribute to TKZ on his retirement. The fight with Holloway showcased his world-famous toughness, as Holloway hurt him on multiple occasions but refused to give up. In his post-fight speech, Holloway praised TKZ for his impact on the sport. Even though TKZ put aside his defense to win one last time inside the octagon, Holloway was smart enough to be safe and counter.
The Korean Zombie had a storied career in the UFC. The biggest miss for the promotion was that TKZ had to do compulsory military service for South Korea for three years. He did the service during the prime years of his life, immediately after his loss to Jose Aldo.
