This is how the judges scored Rose Namajunas vs Carla Esparza uneventful fight at UFC 274
Rose Namajunas vs Carla Esparza at UFC 274
Rose Namajunas vs Carla Esparza was one of the weirdest fights we’ve ever watched as MMA fans. The two strawweights weren’t at their absolute best at UFC 274.
UFC 274 was an exciting power-packed event. The pay-per-view card has some amazing fights on the card with Michael Chandler vs Tony Ferguson, Charles Oliveira vs Justin Gaethje, and others. In the co-main event, Rose Namajunas went out to defend her strawweight strap against her former rival and the first-ever strawweight champ, Carla Esparza.
While everyone expected this fight to be action-packed given the history and what was at stake, to our disappointment, it was quite the opposite. The fight saw Namajunas losing her strawweight belt to her rival Esparza after five rounds barely any action. It was a very weird fight to watch and to score for the judges.
Commentators couldn’t believe what they were witnessing as Joe Rogan, Daniel Cormier, and Jon Anik were constantly bringing up the fact that they have never watched a fight as boring as this one. It was truly a bummer for MMA fans that what was an amazing matchup on paper turned out to be a snoozefest. This only makes us wonder how the judges scored the card with barely any action taking place in the entire fight.
How Carla Esparza ended up getting the split decision victory against Rose Namajunas
Esparza ended up getting the split decision victory after five rounds against her rival Namajunas in the title rematch. The three judges for the fight were Eric Colon, Rick Winter, and Brad Frank. Eric Colon was the only judge who had the fight scored for Namajunas after five rounds. Namajunas was scored 48-47 for her performance at UFC 274.
Rick Winter and Brad Frank scored the fight for Carla, 49-46 and 48-47, respectively. Esparza in the post-fight press conference admitted that she didn’t know if she had done enough to win the fight. While Namajunas was confident that she had won the fight given she put more “volume” throughout the five rounds.
