“Some s**t happened”- Tony Ferguson admits his fight against Khabib Nurmagomedov was ‘cursed’
Tony Ferguson-Khabib Nurmagomedov
Tony Ferguson versus Khabib Nurmagomedov was one contest that was never held. One of the most eagerly awaited, hyped, and well-deserved fights in UFC history took place. Nevertheless, a series of fights between the two were planned. Due to a knee injury, Khabib Nurmagomedov withdrew from the fight in October.
Afterwards, the match was postponed until April 2016. Due to a lung condition, Tony had to pull out of the fight against Khabib in April 2016. The bout was then scheduled for UFC 209, however, the Dagestani fighter fell unwell and had a poor experience while trying to lose weight. He withdrew once more.
The next anticipated meeting between the two was UFC 249 in April 2020. Unfortunately, Khabib was stranded in Russia when COVID-19 began, prohibiting him from taking part. Instead, Tony competed against Justin Gaethje in the UFC 249 main event, where he suffered a brutal defeat.
People’s hopes of seeing them face off were dashed at that point when Tony began losing and Khabib announced his retirement after defeating Justin. Ferguson was one of the most respected sportsmen in the UFC, with maneuvers that impressed both fans and critics alike, despite his recent failures. Many people thought Tony’s fighting style would be the one to defeat Khabib.

The possibility of Khabib Nurmagomedov competing against Tony Ferguson as a coach on a future season of The Ultimate Fighter was recently discussed by Javier Mendez. After the two fighters verbally agreed to battle against one another as coaches on The Ultimate Fighter, Dana White was asked if he would be interested in making it happen.
The idea garnered interest from the UFC president, which gave rise to rumors. Since it is appealing and exciting, it has been discussed for a while in the MMA community. Tony responded by tweeting “Run, Fathead” in response. Even though his tweets are frequently enigmatic, it is clear that he is promoting the notion that he and Khabib are the ideal fight coaches. Here is the said Tweet:-
During an interaction with Helen Yee, Tony Ferguson said “My next fight is going to be against Khabib, I’m going to pul that son a bitch, that cake-eating motherfu*ker the idea is to go TUF and coach. Win or lose it was just going to be an opportunity for Khabib to have Flim, if you are going to have a film why don’t you take the fight. Your pops were the only ones who said this is the fight that you wanted, I’m not saying the world is gonna end but some shit happened, it’s one of the cursed fights”
He further claimed that he is a better coach than Khabib, he stated, “Even if I go and coach against him I know I am a better coach, I have a better coaching set.”
Additionally, Tony Ferguson claimed that Oliveira informed him recently that he couldn’t even find time to practice jiu-jitsu before to their battle. Because the Brazilian is famed for his grappling, if Ferguson wasn’t ready to handle his ground game, it probably had an impact on the fight.
