Things certainly didn’t go well for UFC superstar Tony Ferguson on his return to the octagon against Michael Chandler at UFC 274. “El Cucuy” contemplates retirement following the loss.

Tony Ferguson made a much-anticipated return to the octagon after nearly a year against a one-time lightweight title contender, Michael Chandler at UFC 274. The fight was held at the Footprint Center in Phoenix, Arizona. The former UFC interim champ suffered a devastating defeat to the legs of Chandler as he got knocked out cold in the second round.

However, a small sliver of hope for Tony is that he got the better of Chandler in the first round. The fan-favorite lightweight fighter decided to talk to Submission Radio following his brutal knockout. In the interview, he suggests that the fighter almost hung his gloves following his fourth defeat in a row.

“I had to go back and talk to my dad, talk to my coaches, and I said, ‘if I knew that I didn’t have the guns to go or the will to go anymore, I didn’t do good in the first round, I would have called it quits,'” said Tony talking to Submission Radio about his emotional rollercoaster.

“I would have said f**k this I’m out I am retiring, I will do something else or coach everybody to be at this high level and that’s it. But when I went back and watched the fight and was reviewing everything it was like something happened and something clicked in me man,” said Ferguson talking to Submission Radio.

Ferguson after three continuous defeats to Charles Oliveira, Justin Gaethje, and Beneil Dariush, managed to show the world that he is still a high-level fighter with his first-round performance against Chandler. El Cucuy stung his opponent and almost had the fight ends. It was unfortunate for Tony that he had to be on the receiving end of a kick that Chandler will never probably try again in his fighting career.
